Guidelines for Authors

General

  • Submitted articles may not exceed 2,000 words in length, including endnotes and 10 to 15 key-references at the end of the text.
  • The articles can be submitted in German or English.
  • Please send your article together with visual material to the editors so that we have enough time to clarify the permissions to use the image(s) on the internet
  • Please submit your file as a Word document (*.doc or *.docx)
  • Please format your paper according to the style guidelines on this page.
  • Please check to be sure that your file does not have visible editorial markups; that is, if you have edited your file with "trackchanges" or if you have made comments, be sure to remove those markings before submitting your file.
     

The Stages towards Publication

  • Every article is reviewed by the editors.
  • The revised article will be checked by the editors and goes through language editing by native speakers. If the article was written in German it will be translated.
     

Style Guide

Formatting

  • Lines should be double spaced, including quotations and notes, using Times New Roman font in 12point size. Please do not use non-Latin characters.
  • Endnotes should not be attache to titles, headings, epigraphs, or author's name.
  • Quotations: Please keep the same capitalization, spelling, and punctuation as the original.
  • Terms or concepts which are the object of the article should be presented in italics (Example: state changes its meaning)
     

Figures and Tables

  • In every article one image can be used. Please send the visual as separate file together with the first version of your contribution (as *.png or *.jpg)
  • Please indicate the caption of the image at the end of your article
     

Quotations in Foreign Languages

  • Single words or short phrases, where essential for the argument, may be left in the original language; all quotations should appear in the body of the text in English.
  • The text in its original language should appear in the endnotes whenever practical.
  • In cases where standard scholarly translations of quoted texts are available, please rely upon them for both text and notes according to the professional standards of your field of specialization. If such editions are not widely and readily available, and the text original text has not been provided in the endnotes, please send the original text in an appendix for the use of reviewers.
     

References

  • The webportal style is based on the Chicago Manual of Style, 16th edition, with some variation.
  • Endnotes should be numbered consecutively, double spaced and placed as endnotes, using Arabic and not roman numerals.
  • Notes should be used for citation purposes only and should not contain any discussion that cannot be incorporated into the text of the article. Notes may contain quotations in the original language.
  • A short title system is used for references and follows the notation of the Chicago Manual of Style.
  • The first reference to any work must provide full bibliographic information, including the subtitle, if any, which should be separated from the title by a colon. Subsequent references may be abbreviated.
